HOW IT WORKS

Reverse osmosis, explained simply

A closer look at the membrane at the heart of an RO system.

Reverse osmosis, explained simply

Illustrative or AI-restored image.

Two streams of water

RO uses pressure to move water through a semi-permeable membrane. It produces a treated stream and a reject stream containing concentrated substances.

Performance depends on the system

Check documented contaminant-reduction claims for the specific model. RO also uses water for the reject stream, so efficiency belongs in the selection discussion.

A simplified view

The diagram shows the principle, rather than the piping of a particular product. Pre-treatment, storage and finishing stages vary by system.
